The mists of time

Terry is pictured here with a large piece he made, which has subsequently been gifted to the Pullman Centre in Papakura, the site on which it is built, having originally been the site where the timber grew some 1200 years previous.

In The Mists of Time the gods created the oceans . Maui was chosen to bait his hook and fish the land of Aotearoa from the great oceans into the realms of the living . Upon this new - born land , ancient kauri and other plants set their roots into the hillsides, plains and swamps .So life began , giving shelter and food to all the creatures that followed thereafter. The kauri grew to be king of the forest . In time to come the kauri would lay down to rest and be preserved for all eternity in newly  created swamps
