Guild Information
A bit about the SAWG
The Guild is based in South Auckland New Zealand and has a current membership in excess of 110 turners with ages ranging from 10 to over 80.
The objective of the guild is to further the development of our members, and provide an environment for them to learn from and teach others.
The guild is fortunate to have amongst its membership, several competent turner/demonstrators, and their input, combined with the resources that our committee call upon, provide members with a varied and continually challenging programme.

What we do
Meeting formats are structured, and feature announcements, discussion, showing of turned items brought by members on the "table", and the "activity" of the night. This activity may be a demonstration of woodturning, a slide show, a competition, or hands-on for all members to use the lathes.
On a monthly basis, a project is demonstrated at the first meeting of the month and all members are urged to create the project item so that their work can be shown and critiqued at the last meeting of the month.
As we now have our own clubrooms, we run activities on weekends, and other nights of the week. Check out our Programme for details
The guild and individual members arrange and participate in several exhibitions and sales of woodturning throughout the year, both independently and in conjunction with other guilds in the Auckland area.
At irregular intervals during the year, the guild executive arranges for visiting woodturners from within New Zealand or overseas, often in conjunction with the National Association of Woodturners, to take extended evening or full day demonstrations and training sessions.
In addition, the guild members support turning in the local high schools by providing assistance and expert help to teaching staff. Each year the guild runs a training programme for turners of all levels. Please click on this link to download a MS Word file containing some preliminary information including costs .
